Preston Winter grew up in Tucson in a family with music playing all the time. He played a little piano as a kid but didn't get a guitar until he was sixteen. He soon taught himself how to play by using tabs from the internet. After frequenting many concerts as a late teen, Preston developed an extreme love for live music, with all of its subtleties and dynamic interactions.
However, serious band mates were hard for him to come by. After consulting the influence of local music icon Rich Hopkins (of Luminarios, Sand Rubies, and Sidewinders fame), Preston found out through the grape vine that the two Cracovaner brothers were looking for a talented, committed bass player to complete an authentic rock trio. Preston thrived on the idea of not being tied to any particular musical genre and decided to join the brothers in 2004 to develop a style all their own as Triple Double Band.
Preston loves all kinds of music including punk, classic rock, reggae and some country, but he lists his top influences as The Doors, Sizzla, Modest Mouse, and Fat Wreck Bands. Like most bass players, Preston Winter likes any music that creates a groove and gets people excited: "I like anything that sounds good to me."
